1)It seems to me that there is no Gamma control when in VMR9 using a Radeon 9800 with latest Catalyst software builds. Am I mistaken? This is a serious disadvantage to VMR9 mode if true.

2)When I switch to VMR9 mode I notice the saturation is way off at the same color control settings (everything is too red) Is this to be expected? If so, when we are doing scope calibrations who knows if they are for Overlay or VMR9?

Andy,

I'm running Catalysy 4.10 on a 9700 non-pro. The desktop gamma settings also apply to video playback with VMR9.

Saturation for VMR9 should be in the range of -46 (my Avia results) to -50 (which is what most others report). Have not found the time to scope the settings yet.

You are obviously right that any settings should include the information on if they were determined while using overlay or VMR9.

Thanks for the Gamma clarification. Where do I set the Desktop Gamma?

My initial fiddling around seemed to indicate saturation should be at about that level.

A third question about VMR tearing - If I am getting tearing it would look like a diagonal line, correct? (because a VMR surface is really two 3D triangles in the shape of a rectangle).

I'm seeing some refresh-tearing-like artifacts with some video files but I'm not sure if its VMR9 releated. Its not diagonal though.
