like most I am still reading and learning before purchasing.

I am definately going to put a 42" ED on the wall and want the articulating arm mount. Based on price and overall design I like the omnimount system and that is what I am primarily concerned with learning about.

However, I am interested to know if the articulating arm wall mounts available have a "resistance" in the hinges such that they take some effort to manipulate?

- If so how much effort does it take?

- Is the resistance enough to keep the monitor from moving once placed where desired? I am afraid of constant adjustments might be needed.

- Can those hinges be tweaked (i.e. tightened) to suite user needs?

Four choices seem to be most popular:

Chief

Peerless

Omnimount

Premiere Mount

As far as the Peerless PLA-1... wherever you put it, it stays put - that's true for distance out from the wall as well as turning side-to-side. For these adjustments it moves freely by hand, and not much force is needed to pull it out from the wall, which is handled with vertical axles rather than what I tend to think of as a hinge. So, very easy to pull out and turn on the fly, no fine-tuning required to make it stay in the desired position.

For downward tilt, there's an adjustment knob, but also a couple of screws that should be tightened down once you find the appropriate downward angle - but this isn't really an issue, as downward tilt shouldn't need to be adjusted on the fly once you have it dialed in.

I have the Peerless PLA-1 and it was level against the wall, but when I extended it, it was slightly off. I corrected the level when extended, and funny thing was it was still level when flush. I checked over the weekend, and still level.

In terms of pulling it from the wall, I think it does take a certain amount of effort, my wife can do it, but my four year old couldn't. Side to side is smooth and easy, and stays put.

Great input - except I am still with out details on the omnimount.

I need 90c4 to comment since he mentioned that he owned one - guess I will have to learn how to use the pm feature.

There is a little resistance pulling the set out towards you. Very little resistance laterally. If the screen is fully extended, however, you can't just push it straight into the wall, as the elbow joint needs to be nudged left or right. If it isn't 100% extended, this isn't an issue. It doesn't move on its own from where you leave it, and it's generally a one hand operation.
