Is there any way to salvage this receiver? Pioneer Recever VSX-1122 -  A couple of weeks ago we began receiving the UE22 error message.  All sound ceased on our tv, and now we can even get sound to come thru the tv diverting from the receiver.  We have tried the Frimware update with the USB, we have tried factory reset numerous times and still no sound.  We have tried attaching an iPod, no sound and even movies will not play sound. From the various blogs on the internet, it sounds like the unit is trash.  Anyone have any fixes that work?

Seems to me I'm not alone anymore. That is exactly how it happen for me.

See my post on SC-57. Hopefully you're under warranty...

some internet searches / posts seem to indicate that "banging" the unit might get some temporary results. IF so, then some posts then indicate that "directed banging" with the cover off and on specific board / areas help pin point a failure area that might be fixable there afterwards.... ymmv but it certainly can't hurt especially if you are just going to throw it away.

(An old thread, so this is for future googles...)

While the UE22 implies a firmware Update Error, what it really seems to be is the receiver failing to read the current firmware version on startup.

If you're getting the UE22 error, go into the setup menu and check what version firmware you have.

Should be something in this format:1-191-086-115-063. where each group of numbers is the software version of a different part of the system.

If some of the numbers have asterisks instead of numbers, that's likely where the fault lies.

The 115 in the number above is the DSP version number, so if your serial reads 1-191-086-***-063 then the receiver can't read the current DSP software version, in which case it will likely need a new digital board.

Old thread but in case others still have issue

I also fell victim to the UE22 flashing error. Initially it was just the nuisance but as time progressed I would lose sound or worse get horrendous loud output to my speakers. I updated the firmware via usb (I don't recall if problems started before or after I did that.). Anyways after a while UE22 came on right after power on and I would have no audio output.

In a last mode of desperation I tried the factory reset on page 53 of the manual. This did not solve it. However I then decided to connect the Ethernet cable to the back. When I powered up I was able to go to the home menu and display the setup screen on my tv. I saw that it now had an IP address. I went ahead and asked it to update the firmware via the network. It came back saying the latest firmware was already installed (as expected). But somehow doing that operation and leaving the Ethernet cable plugged in has for now eliminated the flashing UE22 and the receiver works normally! I don't dare remove the Ethernet at this point. Bottom line I have extended the life of my unit for an indeterminate amount of time.

I have an SC-55 with the same error and symptoms as the SC-57 receiver. I'll have to see if it has any asterisks but there is video, but no sound at all. I can't update the firmware as when it tries, eventually it'll fail with an Update Error. Can we as consumers order digital boards for these and replace them ourselves?

I had the UE22 error on my Pioneer VSX-1021. It was making a horrendous noise when turned on, and sometimes flashed UE22. I wiggled some cables on the back and noted the one for the XBox caused the video to drop when wiggled, so swapped out HDMI cable, and UE22 is gone. Might just be a bad cable guys.
