That's right!.

I'v seen dozen of home videos on youtube where kids say,here it is my "1000 watt system". I don't think they mean watts per channel. I think consurmers are confuse be tween the two. I think we need to teach them what are the difference. Because,most home theater in box don't have "1000 watts per channel". Not very often i come across a person that say's that. I m not making fun of them at all,they just need a little bit teaching.

What it's more often down to is the stupid BS specifications like PMPO rather than real watts.

There was, once upon a time, a 'boutique" electronics manufacturer advertising their latest, and greatest two channel 6000 watt amplifier. Careful inspection showed a single 110 volt (15 or 20 amp) electrical (power cord) connection on the back of the amp. I suspect more than one utility company was wondering how they did that.
