I could not figure out what forum to post this in, but seeing how 3d is my ultimate goal, here goes.

I have a ViewSonic PJD6211 projector. The kids use it to play old DVDs.

Being a 'data' projector and not a 'home theater' projector it doesn't have hdmi. It has VGA, RCA & S-Video inputs only. The way I get it to work is use a 'HDMI to VGA' converter (hdmi from DVD player into VGA on projector). DVDs work great.

Seeing how the projector is '3d ready' I purchased a 3d blu ray player. Now I have no image at all. It doesn't even play the standard player background screen.

I downloaded a sbs 3d file and tried to play it off my mac but being only 3d ready the projector only plays what's in the computer screen, 2 images side by side.

Questions:

Why does it recognize DVD hdmi and not blu ray hdmi?

What's my next step?

Any other way I can play 3d content? Either for a downloaded file or from a 3d disk?

Thanks for helping a new guy.

The blu-rays (which are HD as opposed to DVD) likely won't run because you don't have an HDCP-compliant display. Somebody else may be able to answer your other questions, or you can contact ViewSonic directly...

Some reviews on amazon may help:

ALERT!! The 3D capability on this projector is for people with a computer only not for use with a electronics store 3D blue ray player or 3D on your Ps3 or visa versa.

If you are looking for a projector than can play 3d movies...keep looking! This projector must be connected to a computer to function so forget 3dtv or blu ray. If you have a desperate need for 3d powerpoint presentations, this may be the machine for you. Otherwise, its a complete waste of time and money!!

Great point. However, even in the manual it states "gaming console"

I tried a bunch of other things, hdmi through VGA converter:

DVD works

(Older) Apple TV works

PS3 - projector doesn't even find a signal

3d blu ray - finds signal but only shows black screen

And finally (off your point) it runs great off my mac, but how the heck do I play 3d off my mac? It only shows a video in SBS (two side by side images).

Thanks,

You know what you need?

THIS!
http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-3D-Video-Processor-VP3D1/dp/B004ULPF50/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt

Now good luck finding one.

Without it, you need to use a PC for 3D.

Now that I think about it, you can probably also use the VIP 3D Theater to do the 3D conversion where you can use any source:
http://www.curtpalme.com/3DTheatre.shtm

or
http://www.consignia.ca/vip-3d-theater-dlp-projector-tv-adapter-converter-for-3d-gaming-blu-ray-broadcast-3d/

The only problem with the VIP 3D unit is that it is HDMI in and out. Oh wait, the VP3D1 is also HDMI in and out. You should just call ViewSonic and talk to them about this directly.
