DIY UPS - Interesting.

I have never priced separate (UPS) components, but this sounds like a project which has some merit. My first concern would be finding an inverter which can handle the large current load of a typical audio rack, and run the projector, while outputting a pure AC sine wave and a consistent 120 volts. Thanks for the idea. My wife is going to hate this new experiment in the garage....

The pure AC sine wave is the key here.

The high efficiency square wave inverters generate square waves

that rip right thru the audio chain.

This is why the PSaudio units are at best 50% efficient.

Lots of extra heat and power to do it right.

Kevin,

the idea of building my own UPS intrigues me, and goes along an existing desire to power my A/V gear with a pure AC signal at a constant 120 Volts.

Any ideas?

Any advantages to using an isolation transformer, and not bonding the neutral and ground together (2 pole 120 Vac), and having a separate ground rod "Not" tied to the house ground for the A/V circuits?
