Morning,

Checking out prices of DTV systems. Planning to switch from DishNetwork. I've seen a special for 2 rooms for $49.99 before $50 rebate. System has dish, and two entry level receivers.

I want the Ult TV receiver. If I get the 2 room system special, then go out and buy the Ult TV reciver and replace one of the receivers is the installation easy? Just hooking cable to the back of the receiver to swap receivers? Is there anything that needs to be done from the Dish. Extra cables? etc.

Trying to get a Ult TV reciever and basic entry level receiver and installation for a good price. Can't do Minidishes (bad encounter).

Thanks,

Russ

The only issue would be an extra cable for the 2nd tuner (which you want, believe me). You could probably talk the installer into running the second cable to that room cheap or free since it's not really much trouble to run 2 instead of one. You will need a multiswitch if you will have the other receiver in another room. Call and see if you can get a good deal for the install with a UTV from the start instead as well. Maybe they will give you one.

russ_md,

Call DTV first. They have a 12 month commitment for the $49.99 deal. Make sure it is not tied to specifically thoses receivers. Ask them if you can "upgrade" the first two systems to UTV's in the future without a penalty. Better safe than sorry.

Your best option, moneywise, would be to get the 2-room UTV system from orbitsat ( www.orbitsat.com ). I know there are posters on this board who will scream from their rooftops NOT to buy from these guys, but I've purchased 4 from them (3 RCA's and 1 Sony UTV) and have yet to have a single problem with any of them.

Just keep in mind that when you agree to purchase from orbitsat, you're agreeing to go through the manufacturer for support if something is wrong with the receiver. They WILL NOT (and they plainly state this on their site) support any of the receivers they sell (unless it's a DOA). If you activate a receiver, and it dies a week later, you have to go through RCA or Sony for support.

That being said, I haven't had a problem with the 4 I've purchased from them.

Thanks for all your info and advice.

Yesterday I order the 2-room Sony B65 system free w/install from Orbitsat and broke down and ordered the Sony UTV & multiswitch from Minidishes. I know what I said earlier. But I saved like $50 - $60 on that order. Plus I got the keyboard, that wasnt listed with Orbitsat.

Russell,

The keyboard comes with all Sony UTVs, it's the RCA that needs to be purchased separately. The RCA is a more complete keyboard for controlling your UTV with pause, 30 skip, etc. The Sony uses the basic WebTV layout.
