I was browsing DVDs earlier tonight and happened across "Trinity and Beyond" a movie about atomic bomb testing and etc. It had a sticker on it warning about super low LFE content and potential damage to equipment. I've seen a very similar sticker before on the Telarc 1812 Overture and I'm just curious about a few things:

1.) Is there actually any significant danger to decent equipment, or are they just warning you not to turn the volume to max on your BOSE satellites and then hit the play button?

2.) If there really is any potential for damage, it would only affect cheap crappy subwoofers right? I mean if it's super low, lets say 5-10 Hz, a sattellite or even a full range main isnt gonna touch it, so what's the deal? I can see a crappy sub bottoming out, etc. and maybe not being good for it, but other speakers wouldn't even see the signal after the crossover...

3.) On a lighter note has anyone seen this movie? I think I saw a version of it on Discovery or something a LONG time ago, but it looks interesting, lol.

4.) And finally, has anyone ever seen a sticker similar to these on any other CD/DVD? I'm interested what else is out there that I can blow up my living room with :)

Thanks for any comments.

Before upgrading to my current subwoofer system my last one crapped out like this...I was watching monsters inc. with my son.My subs were a pair of NHT 1259 (12" drivers) and a couple of 300 watt mono's.I thought I was set.Up comes the scene where the CDC blow up the sock under that thing they screw to the floor.A little more volume and I would have torched the pair.I sold the whole thing off and now I think I'm set...for a while. The bottom line is you never know when it's your(systems time).

It is possible to bottom out a high dollar subwoofer, I have done this once with my SVS PC+ 16-46, but of coarse at the time I was running my sub hot (+6db) over my main speakers, not counting the +3db that the RS SPL meter is off so a total of 9db and was playing Blade 2 DTS at Dolby Reference when I heard the awful clank of bottoming out.

After that I educated myself and now running dual SVS cylinders that are both properly calibrated with no more bottoming, even at Dolby Reference levels.

Thanks guys for sharing your experiences. Must have been awful relaxing and enjoying a movie and then hearing those sounds.

So I take it my assumption was correct about the subwoofer being the only speaker in jeopardy with this type of issue? I mean obviously playing ANY speaker too loud is a bad thing, but as far as the ultra low LFE is concernned, its not gonna explode satellites or anything, right? :)

Also if anyone has seen this movie I'm interested what you thought. Is it just one explosion after another or is there some background, history, discussion type stuff going on. I'd like to hear some cool facts or whatever about the program to supplement the booming :)

I'm considering picking it up on Ebay for

if you have your sats set to "small" then they are rolled off below 80hz or so. shouldnt be a problem.
