The story focuses on the hero’s relationship with his mentor and father figure, fan fave Victor “Sully” Sullivan, and has him searching for a legendary lost city that will ultimately take him to the Arabian Peninsula and the vast wasteland of the Rub’ al Khali Desert, also known as the Empty Quarter. (Said legendary lost city has been known by various names, including “Iram of the Pillars” and the “Atlantis of the Sands”; click the link for more backstory.)

Exactly. Not only do they make an amazing game, but they tell a great story too. U2 was truly an interactive movie for me. Can't wait to see the locales that will be visited in this one.

Day one purchase, I don't even need to hear the details.

Fantastic news! ND could take on the challenge of setting the game in an empty room with blank, white walls and it would still be a winner.

Of all the game series I enjoy, Uncharted is by far the safest bet on quality. No need for reviews or even previews as I don't want to ruin the experience. All I need to know is the release date!

Naughty Dog is remaining cagey about the release date for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, but expect it to drop around the same time that the first Nathan Drake novel, Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth, hits next fall

uncharted-3

Great point. I was totally oversaturated with previews before Uncharted 2 released. Set pieces like the moving train would've been that much more "OMG!" the first time I played had I not known it was coming.

Amazon lists these details:

"An interactive cinematic experience that blurs the lines between games and Hollywood films.

Nathan Drake's journey will put you through new challenges and take you to stunning locations around the world, from a derelict chateau in France, to the merciless Arabian Dessert.

Epic single player campaign with evolved signature UNCHARTED gameplay.

A new breed of Action Adventure Multiplayer that brings the exciting cinematic elements of the single-player campaign, into the multiplayer.

Experience the thrill of UNCHARTED in stereoscopic 3D

A search for the fabled "Atlantis of the Sands" propels fortune hunter Nathan Drake on a trek into the heart of the Arabian Desert. When the terrible secrets of this lost city are unearthed, Drake’s quest descends into a desperate bid for survival that strains the limits of his endurance and forces him to confront his deepest fears.

"

Pretty cool to hear it'll be in 3d. If anyone will do the tech justice, it's naughty dog!

I think I may have to do the same. I did the same as you for U2, but there were parts that I would have loved to been in awe of had I not seen something on it already (like the train sequence Zook noted).

There are plenty of other games that I've put more hours into, but no game has topped the experience I had with U2. Can't wait.

I don't ordinarily like to say this, but I totally called it!

The explorer in whose footsteps Nathan Drake follows this time around is T.E. Lawrence :

Which is exactly what I proposed back in this rumor thread :

Based on those criteria, I'd like to see an Uncharted set in Northern Africa (Egypt, Morocco) or in the Middle East (Syria, Iraq, Jordan). Not sure who the explorers might be, though (T.E. Lawrence?).

Looks like I get my wish!
