Just read an interesting article in Home Entertainment Magazine, July/August.

The author went to DD and DTS labs where A/B tests were conducted in house on their testing equipment using computers to properly do the tests.

Filmmixer often posts in these threads and gets alot of hassles for his views on this subject. Maybe he does know something

Their website is hemagazine.com. I couldn't find the article their but it is in the issue I stated above.

I thought I gave a clue so not to spoil the read. But if you're not going to read it suffice it to be said, they found it very difficult to tell the diff. This extended to the vanilla DD and DTS as they compared to their HD counterparts, TrueHD and DTS-MA.

Now having read the article, I put on Cloverfield and tried comparing the DD version to the TrueHD one. As much as I hoped for a big diff it was very subtle at most. I am doing this on a pretty high end system so if there was a big diff, it should have shown up here. I have always felt that a good sound design would trump a particular sound codec. Just my opinion and a few others.
