Still trying to get the optimal PJ placement in this odd room. I'm now thinking of a Draper SL dropdown PJ mount. Optimally it seems the closer the PJ is to the screen the better the viewing cone. I am extrapolating this from comments that if I put the PJ on the back wall, 32 ft away, the viewing cone would be killed for all except the two closest seats.

So, for a 116" wide screen and probably an RS2, what would you all say the optimal placement would be?

Also, if one were to add an anamorphic lens, would one be better off with a horizontal stretch (could move PJ even closer=better cone still??) vs a vert compression?

If you are planning to use a 2.35:1 High Power screen, optimal placement of the PJ will be at viewer eye level and with a minimum throw of 14 feet with the VC lens, and 10 feet with the HE lens. This will provide the brightest picture and decent brightness uniformity for viewers in rows proximate (say +/- 2 feet from) the projector. It will also leave you a little wiggle room for zoom adjustment. If you have seating directly in front of the PJ, you can raise the PJ enough for the bottom of the light beam to clear the heads of those viewers.

Since you will obtain the best brightness uniformity with the PJ close to your main viewing row(s), you may want to consider moving the PJ further than the minimum throw distances stated above, even though this will reduce the brightness somewhat. I strongly suggest you use my screen gain calculator to evaluate your specific room arrangement.
