Unpowered sub and an Onkyo

1501 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  scorpion12
I've got an Onkyo TX-NR509 receiver. I've also got an unpowered subwoofer. The only connections it has are 2 speaker wire jacks.

How do I connect this unpowered sub to my receiver?

You need an amp to power the sub, as in, an amp that can take the subwoofer out from the Onkyo, apply amplification, and send it over the speaker wire to the sub itself. It can be done, but it's probably more trouble than it is worth if we're talking the cheap passive subs from HTIBs.
Update: I bought a powered sub. Everything works fine.
