Upconverting DVD and ED plasmas

273 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ChuckSolo
Gents, Done some searching but haven't found an answer to my exact situation...

Any ED owners will know sending 1080i material yields the best PQ, with that in mind, my neighbor bought a Panny 7UY, and an upconverting DVD via HDMI, and his PQ was noticeably better than my 480p player.

So the question is, I'm only capable of component connection(50' in wall)

Has anyone experimented with upconnverting players-->via component--->to ED plasma.?

Not necessarily. It depends on the display and the upconversion process. I have come across quite a few people who have said that native 480p gives a better picture on their EDTV plasma.
Don't ED plasmas down convert 720p and 1080i signals to 480p, as Kevin, said their "native" resolution? There is no way to display true Hi-Def (720p, 768p or 1080i resolutions on an ED display. I would say his display looks better because he is using the pure digital HDMI connection while your component connection has to do some extra processing somewhere up the line.
