I have the same Panny plasma for a little over a year. I was not pleased with the video quality from my old Panny DVD player, to the point that I basically stopped watching DVDs. I bought a Zenith 318 about 5 months ago, which I connect through component to the Panny plasma. I can honestly say that now the video quality of any decent anamorphic DVD is near HD quality, although still not quite the video qaulity as the cable HBO or Showtime HD movies. I can enjoy watching DVD movies again.


I don't know whether this is because the Panny plasma does not have a very good scalar. But I would definitely recommend the Zenith 318 for the Panny HD plasma.

Yes, I am upconverting to 1080i through component. The $160 for the Zenith 318 DVD player is the best value for any consumer electronics item, as far as I am concerned. I never had any problem with the player and couldn't be happier with the purchase. The Zenith 318 can also be easily converted to become an all region player, altough I have not tried it yet.
