Upconverting on a ED plasma?

488 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Bud-man
I have a Panasonic WD426UY and just bought a Pioneer 79avi. I was thinking of ordering the DVI blade so I could take advantage of the 79avi HDMI output (already have a DVI to HDMI cable in place). My question is will I see any improvement in PQ by feeding the Panasonic with the HDMI/DVI connection?

Thanks in advance for any advice, Bill

I'm not really sure... but I suspect using the uncompressed digital interface of your DVD player that supports up converting to 720p/1080i will result with an improved picture being rendered from your Pioneer DV-79AVi to your Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY.

Hopefully I will be testing the same with an OPPO OPDV971H and my TH-50PX50U sometime today. :)

Thanks for the reply. I think with all I have invested in my HT another $150.00 for the blade will be worth it. I think with the PDP you have the benefit will be greater as it is a HD unit. Please post your impressions of the Oppo.

Bill
It's always "handy" to have another digital input for your PDP no matter what device you currently or will eventually use.

I'm still waiting patiently... for the FedEX guy to show-up with my "Oppo!"
I have tried 2 upconverting players on my ED panny, a LG 511 and a Toshiba 4980, i cant hardly tell any noticeable diffrence in quality over 480p, i give the edge to 1080i setting

I have 2 more players coming this week, a Oppo and a Kingwell that does 1080p thru component or hdmi.
