Hi all,

is it true that if I have a Directv/HDTV tuner and I watch regular (non HD) satellite, the signal will be upconverted to 1080i? Someone told me this but I'm not sure...

Thanks

If your satellite box is an HD box, and you set it to HD mode, and you select the HD input on your TV, you will be watching upconverted 1080I if it is SD material. Upconverted SD will have black bars on the side. HD will fill the screen.

Upconverted SD can often be controlled by the HD receiver. Mine allow stretch and crop as well as gray or black side panels.

I think we have forgot to mention that D* picture on most not all channels looks pretty bad when upconverted and displayed on a HDTV, for that matter D* looks bad period on HDTVs.

But in time you learn to live with it.
