Hello AVSForums

So a while ago I upgraded my HTPC to a HD3650 AGP + P4 2.4GHz. Now I'm wanting to do a little editing and full 1080p playback, and it seems the P4 just isn't cutting it.

So I didn't want to sell my HD3650, since its a great HTPC card and light gaming card. I'm planning on ordering this motherboard . I'm going to be pairing it up with a Intel Celeron E1400 Dual Core which should give a good increase over the P4 right?

So my question is, is this upgrade good? Will the E1400 be fast enough? The motherboard comes with PCIE 16x so I can upgrade whenever I need to. Thanks!

The mb is a right choice. If you are considering software decoding of 1080p contents, then 2.0GHz 512KB L2 cache is a bare minimum. Pentium Dual-Core E5200 2.5GHz 2MB L2 cache +$16 is a much better choice.

Okay, so you think the motherboard is a wise choice? I won't be gaming at all on it. I'm thinking of overclocking the E1400 to gain performance, or would I be better with a E5200?

Thanks.

CPU usage depends on video format/resolution/bitrate/decoder. For H.264, 1080p, 25Mbps with ffdshow, CPU usage is ~80% with Celeron E1400 2.0GHz.
