excerpt follows :

Quote:

"A D&M spokeswoman said the company does not plan to interrupt subscribers' connection to ReplayTV, the personal digital recorder service that allows users to save television programming to a hard drive and play it back when they choose.

However, she said the company has not yet determined if it will continue to offer all of ReplayTV's features, which include the ability to skip commercials as programs are recorded, and to send some saved programs over the Internet.

The features raised the ire of major media players such as Walt Disney Co.DIS.N , Viacom Inc. VIAb.N and the TV networks, which filed lawsuits against Sonicblue claiming that ReplayTV violates copyright laws, and robs them of ad revenue.

Rival systems made by TiVo Inc. TIVO.O . and EchoStar Communications Corp. DISH.O do not feature a skipping option, although users can fast-forward past ads.

"We do not believe we are a party to that lawsuit," the D&M spokeswoman said."

Does D&M think that the RTV doesn't record the commercials? Someone needs to get these guys to think straight.

I kinda wish they didn't record the commercials, but alas... There they are taking up HD space. However, that could prove to be a good thing in the CA "battle". I do like that they think they aren't "party to that lawsuit." :)

This is a repost from another thread but I think it's significant enough to repeat:

Reuters Update #3

This update seems to clarify D&M's stand on providing the guide service:
http://reuters.com/financeNewsArtic...storyID=2580404

"A D&M spokeswoman said the company plans to continue to allow ReplayTV users to connect to the service, allowing access to program guides in order to save television programming to a hard drive for later viewing."

The big difference between this quote and the previous ones is that they use the words "ReplayTV users" and "program guides" which would indicate that they plan to provide guide data to all users and not just monthly subscribers.
