Upgrade from Anthem AVM-20 2.2?

I'm getting the "bug" to upgrade, and want to move to an HDMI-based processor.

I have the Anthem now, with a Rotel amp and B&W mains (as listed in my profile). I care more about audio than video. I will remain with a 5.2 setup (dual subs). Most listening is sadly home theater streamed, or via blue ray. I DO like to sit and listen to music, but not finding the time to do that much.

What would be a good suggestion for an upgrade to the Anthem that would be a sonic improvement, have HDMI, and available in the USED market? I will happily look at recent gear rather than buying the latest and top dollar.... I could see spending around $1000 more than the Anthem is worth, maybe a tad more. So I'm guessing max of $2000 used for the replacement unit? Obviously spending less would be better.

Thanks!

Why not just upgrade to another Anthem with HDMI and ARC room correction?

You could easily get an AVM40 (if you don't need video processing) or AVM50 if you do.
Get an Anthem MRX-300 and use it as a processor with your Rotel amp.
Thanks. The receiver would probably be a downgrade sonically, and I want to improve the sound, not just get the HDMI ports.

I've been trying to find comparisons for the AVM-20 / 40/ 50. Don't think I would need the 50V with the extra ports and fancy video processing.

Anyone familiar enough with the Anthem product line to comment on the audio difference between the 20 and the 50?

ARC would be nice, especially in my room, so thanks for that suggestion as well. REW is, well - a hobby to use

Thanks.

I had an Anthem AVM-20 v1.0 that I used for a while. I recently replaced it with a Denon AVR-3312 and will be selling my Anthem as soon as I find a buyer. To me, the AVR-3312 is pretty damn close in terms of sound quality for movies. I am not sure if I could tell them apart when watching movies, but, when listening to music, the AVM-20 is better than the Denon.
Can someone help me understand the AUDIO differences between the AVM20 and an AVM50?

I know there's different video capabilities and the 50 has HDMI, but is the audio section actually different? Improved?

Thanks.
Are you asking about the 50 or the 50v?

I only ask as there are difference between the two as well.

the V handles ALL current codecs i.e. Dolby HD and DTS master audio. Also it has 24/192 DACs not just 24/96 on all channels. Lastly the 50 and v have video processing which is good or bad depending on what you want.
I'm interested in the 50, not the 50v, which has more video capabilities than I care about. And the D2 would be nice...but, back to reality.

So yes- looking for any audio differences between an avm-20 v2.2 and an AVM-50 (NOT an upgraded avm-20).

Thanks
You might want to ask in the Anthem AVM /D2 thread. Bob, John and others can provide you better information. I have a 50v and was not really into Anthem prior to my current setup so I cannot answer with any better info.

Good suggestion. Lots of people have upgraded so there should be some who could give a comparison.

John
Sorry to ask this - but what thread(s) are you referring to? The one that seems most active is the tweaking thread?

Thanks!!
Yes that is the "owner's" group. Lots and lots of very knowledgeable people on there.
