upgrade from blackout cloth for benq 6100

I've got a homemade screen currently and am looking to upgrade to a manufactured screen, What are other people using for screens and what are your results? Is there a huge improvement from blackout cloth? I have a dedicated light controlled theatre. Looking to spend around $500.

Check out the Da-lite threads. I have owned the regular white and now have the high power. I have the pull down, type B. Both are well within your price range and will be a step up. (I started out with window backing material and it is surprising just how well it works.)

For description of the types of screens I recommend looking at Projectorcentral.com if you haven't already.

I have the opportinity to purchase a High Contrast Cinema Vision - Gain 1.1 HDTV format 120" diag. for half the MSRP, it is from a home theatre dealer that had a return from a customer who upgraded to the Stewart line. I get to try before I buy on Monday, It is going to take up my entire wall but I think I will mask it with my theatre curtains just for the size I need now and when I upgrade projectors it will be waiting

Honestly, I think you will see more benefit by putting your money towards a projector upgrade instead. Incredible deals have been around on Infocus 4805s and the advantages in color saturation, deinterlacing, black level, elimination of light spill and added digital input are well worth it. I would hazard to say that you could sell your existing PB6100 and upgrade to a 4805 or an entry level Optoma for about what you are considering spending on a screen. That's my 2 cents anyway.

I requested screen samples from Da-lite, & Draper. The price range fell around 600-1000 cdn $. The difference I noticed from the blackout cloth in my dark theatre was a slight improvement, but not enough to warrant spending that kind of money. I absolutly love spending money on my theatre room items. But this was the first item that didn't take too much to talk myself out of.
I have a benq 6200 and just got some samples from Dalite and just went through the same questions as you. I compared directly BoC, the High Contrast Cinema Vision, and the matte white. I could not tell the difference in any condition between the matte white and BoC. The HCCV was better and if it was free my choice would be easy. However, they are not and I came to the conclusion that it is just not worth the money. I agree w/ the poster above who said upgrade your pj instead. I think you will get more bang for you buck there.

That is just my opinion though, get yourself some samples and make your own decision. That is the only way you will know for sure.
