Hey folks,

I have been using the 805 as the pre-pro in my primary setup. I am using an outboard Emotiva amp. Sources are PS3, Oppo 980, Cable DVR and a SB3.

I am setting up a secondary setup in the basement for the rec-room. I needed a receiver for that. I was thinking of either getting something like the pioneer 1120K for the basement and call it a day, or moving the 805 to the basement and upgrading the receiver for the primary HT setup.

What would be a worthy upgrade to the 805 without breaking the bank?

I dont need gobs of power since I will continue to use the outboard amp.

I dont have any particular attachment to any particular brand.

Please recommend/advise!

Thanks!

Since you're using the Emotiva, you might as well move the 805 down, and get a new Pre/Pro. The Yamaha 1065 was a higher end model, but was lacking in some features. Notably it does HDMI switching, not upconversion I believe, also it lacks networking and HDMI 1.4. It's a low price compared to MSRP, but Amazon sold it for as low as $280 as a lightning deal.

For about $100 more, the Pioneer 1120 weighs more (heavier amps maybe in case you never need them), has the Marvell upscaling chip, HDMI 1.4, and adds internet radio.
