Wondering if it's worth it to go from the NS 777s to the HSU bookshelves? I'm also open to other options in the $300-400 range, either towers or bookshelves.

I have a good subwoofer, the SVS 16-46 PC, so I'm good in that department.

I auditioned the Hsu bookshelf speakers, but only at Hsu Research and not in my home. For a horn speaker, I was nicely surprised (I'm usually fairly sensitive to horn speakers and that type of design isn't my favorite). I think you will be nicely surprised as well.

For other speakers in that price range, take a look at the following (I haven't auditioned these):

$165 / pair (shipping extra) Philharmonic Audio Affordable Accuracy bookshelf speakers: http://philharmonicaudio.com/ and http://philharmonicaudio.com/aa.html

$298 / pair (on sale w/ $32 shipping) Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE bookshelf speaker: http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/cbm170/cbm170.html

$300 / pair (? shipping) NHT SuperOne 2.1 bookshelf speaker: http://www.nhthifi.com/Bookshelf-speaker-SuperOne-2-1?sc=12&category=3772

$219 - $249 / pair (? shipping) HTD Level TWO bookshelf speaker: http://www.htd.com/Products/bookshelf-speakers/Level-TWO-Bookshelf-Speakers

$319 - $349 / pair (? shipping) HTD Level THREEW bookshelf speaker: http://www.htd.com/Products/level-three-speakers/Level-THREE-Bookshelf-Speakers

The following I have auditioned and do own (so yeah, I think highly of them, but that doesn't mean you will agree).

$225 / pair (includes shipping) EMP Tek R5Bi bookshelf speaker (formally E5Bi): http://emptek.com/r5bi.php

Based on what I've read about the 777s any bookshelf in your budget would be a down grade.

Like already asked, what's wrong with them that you don't like?

Can't pinpoint it but I went and listened to both the Monitor Audio MR2 and BX2 the other day and they just sounded a lot more exciting than my Yamahas.
