Thanks , never heard of yadif, will have a google
yadif (deinterlacer) is also built in ffdshow. yadif + seesaw + LSF + quad core processor will give a nice result.
Is there a guide for noobs on this? I can google yadif, LSF, and seesaw, but how to implement them (I'm thinking it's an AVIsynth script in FFDshow?) is a mystery.
Me too. Im just being lazy but I wish someone could make a version of ffdshow that upscaled straight out the box.

Just follow the instruction in the sticky by 8:13 (Mid range). Add yadif (see this post ).

Of course hardware deinterlacer + hardware upscaling (ATI, NVIDIA, Intel) is much easier and almost equally good. (I tried ffdshow just to check how much CPU usage is necessary for software upscaling.)

Thanks Renethx, I have a ATI 4670 1g , just wondering what setting I would use to upscale , Auto Deinterlacing, edge enhancement etc..?
I also appreciate pointing me toward yadif. Where can I learn more about LSF and seesaw? I'm struggling there too.
Tried Yadif in live tv, made picture worse. Would the setup for upscaling DVDs work for live tv ?

Step 1.) install software.

Step 2.) replace ffdshow.ax

Step 3.) configure ffdshow digital audio

Step 4.) configure ffdshow analog audio

Step 5.) configure ffdshow video

Step 6.) configure reclock

Step 7.) configure media player classic

Step 8.) install avisynth plugins

Step 9.) Reboot, twice.

??????????

I've found WMC7 does a decent job on Live TV/DVD out of the box. Adding codes has much potential to break your system w/o offering significant PQ improvements.
I ve been using media control and find the PQ a touch better
