Hello everyone. I was almost set to pull the trigger on a Pioneer SC-05 cause it looks like it does everything but shine your shoes and would go well with my Kuro. Then economic reality set in so I looked for some other Pioneer models. I'm in the U.S. military and I can get a dual voltage version of the European VSX-LX51. As a newbie I can't link to the specs so here's the main features listed on the Pio EU site:

Output Power per Channel 150W

Impedance at Output Level 6Ω

Number of Channels 7

Signal / Noise Ratio 92 / 65 dB

Input Connections 3 x HDMI (1080p upscaling), 2 x Coaxial, 4 x Optical, 2 X Audio, 4 x S-Video, 5 x Composite, 3 x Component, 1 x USB (A-Type), 1 x iPod Digital, 7.1 Multi-Channel

Output Connections 1 x Audio, 1 x HDMI, 2 x S-Video, 2 x Composite, 1 x Optical, pre-amp (all 7.1 ch)

Tuner Pre-set Stations 30

THX Certified (+) Yes, THX Select2 plus

HD Digital Film Direct 24 (+) Yes

MCACC (+) Yes (Advanced, 9-band)

HD Audio Formats Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution

KURO LINK (+) Yes

HDMI Deep Colour (+) Yes

Remote Control Preset (illuminated)

Power Consumption (in use / standby) 410W / 0.75W (with KURO LINK on)

Weight 13,5 kg

Dimensions (W x H x D) 420 x 173 x 433 mm

It looks like it shares some features of the SC-05 minus the ICE amps, 1 HDMI input, and ethernet jack. I haven't seen much about it on the net, but what I have seen has been positive. Can anyone tell me if I've missed something major or what the American Pioneer equivalent is?

I'm replacing a Denon 3801 which sounds great, but I need that HDMI connectivity!

Thanks for any input

The European equivalent of the SC-05 is the SC-LX71

The European equivalent of the SC-07 is the SC-LX81

The European equivalent of the SC-09 is the SC-LX90

The main difference you will see from the SC-05 and SC-LX71 is blue vs amber lights and non-detachable vs a detachable power cord on the SC-LX71

The VSX-LX51 is more the equivalant to the VSX-01/03TXH

Your main differences are in the amplifiers. Class D ICE AMPS in the SC series.

Any of them are fine receivers and will work for you. It depends on what you want. I suggest you go on the VSX-01/03THX and SC-07/05 owners threads to see any features oir specific questions you are looking for..

Thanks CHP_VR, I've been following your SC05 thread for some time. You've supplied exactly what I was looking for - I couldn't find the comparison page on the EU site & I had no idea how to cross-reference US to EU.

One difference I see is the A/D converter = 96 kHz/24-bit on the LX51 vs 192 kHz/24 bit on the SC05. I assume that comes into play for component/composite inputs going to HDMI output. Assuming I'm right and plan on using it that way, do you think it's a deal breaker?

The A/D conversions refer to analog to digital audio.

The SC-05 and SC-07 use Wolfson WM8740 DACs (same as in the BDP-51/05FD)

I believe the VSX-01/03/51 use Wolfson WM8728

The SC-09 uses Wolfson WM8741 DACs

VSX-LX51:
http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/4...X51/specs.html (Look under Amplifier Specifications)

and here (VSX-03TX):
http://pioneerusa.com/PUSA/Products/...TXH.Kuro?tab=B

96 kHz/24-bit A/D

192KHz/24 bit D/A

The specs are the same for both the VSX-03 and the VSX-LX51

The SC-05/07/LX71/81 are better A/D resolution:

Analog to Digital Conversion 192 kHz/24 bit

Digital Analog Conversion (DAC) 192 kHz / 24-bit DAC Wolfson WM8740 DAC
