My 7 year old son has a portable Sony cassette and DVD player

http://store.sony.com/cd-radio-cassette-recorder-zid27-CFDS05/cat-27-catid-ESP-Consumer-Electronics

It has an input connection for a stero mini-jack. I bought a real microphone and adaptor for $25 hoping he could use it as sort of an amplifier to sing and play.

It works but the sound is barely audible. Im a complete newbie but now thinking that the sound needs to be amplified?

What are my options? any other creative ideas to allow him to have fun with a mic and small amp?

LOL :) thanks but those products are junk. and my son thinks he's too old for Cars and themes like that. was hoping to use a real microphone wanted to see if his CD/Cassette player would work. Am thinking its not working b/c it doesnt have the "amplification" capability? I just dont understand the mechanics of these things, sound equipment, etc.

yep serenity now for whatever option I go with?
