Used Barco 1209s worth buying?

1167 Views 16 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Gunnar
I am a newbie. I am looking into buying a used Barco 1209s.

How much would be a good amount to pay for it? Is it a good choice? I will be buying local. Are there particular things I should look out for to be careful?

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. :) :) :)

damn fine PJ, doesn't get much better, 9" tubes good for 1080p

check the units tubes for wear, it's hard to see though on a LC machine

if you are starting with this you don't have much farther to go in upgrading :D

Thanks for the info. How much would be a good offer to pay for? :(
Hi,

If you DONT buy then I will consider it.....

Im also looking for a 1209s

Data or Graphics,

Any condition..........

Price depends on chassis hours, condition of tubes, data or graphics version, date of unit, coloured c elements, and lens type.....

There dont think I missed anything!!!

Get the above detail from seller.

Hours from menu, service, run time.

condition of tubes - visual inspection

data or graphics - will say on silver sticker on rear of unit

date of unit - same sticker

coloured c elements - look into red / green lens - are they white or red / green

lens type - written on side of lens.

Best projector that I've yet seen.

Price will vary enormously depending on age , spec and condition.

Something on it's last legs could be worth less than $1000.

A really good example could fetch more than $5000.

But just because something is cheap, doesn't mean that it's good value. You have to know what you are doing with these; do your learning beforehand.... . So often these things are bought sight unseen, from a great distance, so a local sale is a good place to start.

Can you get to see it working before hand?

Yes I can certainly check it for its functionality as it is local. But I have not done it yet. Will update once I know more details. Thanks

Yes it is! I did it just the other day. I ended up putting on sunglasses and shining a flash light inside the lens. Everything's distorted the flash light's light is reflecting back at you, so it's hard to tell exactly what part of the tube face you're actually looking at, Take your time and check out the tube faces REALLY good. The edges of the tube face will be unused and perfect. Anything that doesn't look like the edge is wear.
not sure whether this works on an LC machine but for my last tube tests an a BG808 I used a little UV-LED lamp (used in Europe to test Euro bills) - the ultraviolett light stimulates the phosphor to glow and masks or logo burn-ins shine very obvious (even if not seen on the surface).

Works very good on green, less on blue.

Hope this helps,
OH! I forgot tube type in my list......written on side of tubes......

Look at the Bell end Sir!

(Childish humour gets me every time :D - SORRY)

FULL tube type no good just saying P19's there are MANY types.
Thank you guys for the pointers on evaluating the unit. It took a while to get the info about the 1209s from the seller.

Here is what he has told me over the phone.

Mfg date is April 1999

Data 1209s Iris

The lenses are Barco HD300 (all three)

When I asked him, he was not sure how to find the usage hours. I have no idea either. Does anyone know how I can check it?

Darn....missed asking about the tube type. Will do shortly.

You might want to go check it out right now. If you found this through somewhat standard methods, then people around here will be all over it before you know it. It happened a couple of months ago to some poor unsuspecting soul.

On checking the tubes, the best way with LC (I believe) is to project an all white screen.

Ericglo
Well...thanks for the heads up. I will try to move fast.

If it needs tubes, they cost a fortune. Inspect it carefully

So whats the difference between a 1209s Graphics and 1209s Data ?
Data is the LOWER resolution unit.

boards are different, AND the control firmware.

still a great machine but the graphics is the better bigger brother........
CRT Hours:

-Turn on unit

-Press ADJ on remote or built in keypad

-Select SERVICE on onscreen menu, press ENTER

-Select CRT RUNTIME on onscreen menu, press ENTER
