With over 100 posts since I started reading this forum in June, I'd like to think that no one will doubt that I highly value my time reading and enjoying the posts here.
That said, some of you may have noticed that all of posts include, in my signature, a reference to the newsgroup alt.video.ptv.replaytv. Before I found this forum, I searched for a newsgroup related to ReplayTV, but could only find the Tivo forum. I posted there occasionally and found that other Replay users would post there as well. For lack of another resource, I went through the motions to create the replaytv newsgroup.
Acceptance has been slow. For starters, anyone reading posts here already have an invaluable location to discuss the unit with the added bonus that Mike, Eric, Logan, Doug (even Just) et. al. read the posts regularly. Secondly, despite my best efforts, I can't seem to get deja to carry the group (since when did they ever reject a group?).
I think a newsgroup provides an important component for the discussion community. For those users with an aversion to web based forums, it provides an Internet standard that virtually all have access to. For those users who value anonymity very greatly (admittedly some so they can be rude), Usenet, in the alt. heirarchy, provides a level of anonymity. Finally, if I can ever get deja to carry it, it provides the well known search presence that many first seek when searching for discussion groups.
So why am I saying all of this? I'd like the group to be included in news servers across the country so the discussion will continue (note that it will also serve to bring new users here when, as we often do, we refer to information provided in the group as a link in a message). If you know how your news reader works, see if you can add the group. If not, will you please send an email to your news administrator to request its inclusion? I will send boosters of the newsgroup creation message tomorrow and the following Friday, in case your administrator needs it.
Increased communication can only help.
