I bought a Yamaha rx v1067 2nd hand which has the extra "presence" speaker outputs. So it can do 9.2 sound but not all at once, it only has 7 channels./amplifiers but outputs for 9 . Unless you use a second AMP/receiver for the last 2 channels?. My question is:

is it OK to use just my old yamaha receiver for the presence speakers? My old receiver is 5.1 so would there be any advantage in diverting the presence outputs through it ( and maybe the surrounds as well)? I have read that using power amps takes the load off the main receiver and can give better sound. Or is their no advantage other than just being able to get use of 9 channels?

it might help if you mentioned what the other receiver is. Doesn't it have 5.1 analog inputs so that you can distribute extra channels to it?

Of course if you have both receivers you just could try it and would know the answer.
