I have a media center pc that is connected to a receiver that powers my outdoor speakers. I wondered If a dell Axim with WIFI could be used to remotely operate my pc and display what the pc monitor is showing.

Sure, you can remote-control the pc....but you won't be able to see any video the pc is displaying. For remote control, you can use the Terminal Services Client or a third-party app like VNC. You will need to configure the pc to allow incoming connections.
I really just want to select the source(internet radio, itunes, windows media player) ,control volume and change tracks in itunes. As long as the axim displays what is being displayed on the pc monitor it should work.
