I've been trying unsuccessfully for several days to get guide information into my 4000. Recently, I switched my DSL service, but for several weeks I will be without any DSL service. I figured it would be easy to use something like Internet Connection Sharing, but I can't seem to get that to work. I have searched around here and several other places, but can not seem to get a configuration that works with the 4000. I have successfully connected 2 computers together with a crossover CAT-5 cable, but I can not get the same results with a computer and the 4000. Here is what I have:
-CAT-5 Crossover cable
-Windows 2000 PC with modem and network card
-Windows 98 PC with a network card, no modem.
-Linksys Wireless DSL Router with 4 port switch (BEFW11S4)
-2 USB wireless network adapters (one for each pc)
-Compuserve Dial-up account.
I believe part of the problem is with Compuserve, but it's the only way I can access the internet until my DSL is back up. I don't really care whether I need to manually connect to the internet and change the network information around every week since this is only a temporary solution.
Sonic-Blue tech support was basically useless. However, they did give me a back-door solution to use the modem, but I would have to reset the 4000 and lose all my shows I have recorded. I was hoping to give this a try before going there.
