Hi,

I have a Netgwear eight-port gigabit switch GS608 v2.

The devices I connect are:

1) DVICO M-4110SH network media player

2) Synology DS207+ network attached storage (NAS).

If I conect the two devices on a crossover cable they work fine.

If I use the GS608 v2, you can see the two devices communicating, however the mesage is: "Unable to connect to disk."

What is going wrong, and what do I need to do?

Thanks,

Harry.

Check the cables and verify link. You want straight through cables.

Check the IP addresses on the devices and make sure they are in the same sub net.

Lastly replace the switch, actually that is the first thing I would do. I have never been a fan of Netgear's white plastic stuff. White is one of the worst colors for any electronics.

Thank you LathanM,

What does "verify link" mean.

I am using straight through cables.

How do I discover the IP address of my DVICO M-4110SH network media player? I thought only the NAS has an IP address.

Are you telling me that the IP address must be the same sub net address?

Before, when I connected the two devices on a crossover cable they work fine, but now when I replace the switch with a crossover cable, I can see the two devices communicating, however the mesage is: "Unable to connect to disk."
