Hi All.

I have a lead on a Toshiba 72MX195 for $3700 and I am very, very tempted to pick it up. I see in the user manual that it has two IEEE 1394 (Firewire) ports for DVR support. Does anyone know if I can use my computer, set up as a HTPC, as a DVR with this TV? Is there special software to make this work?

Thanks,

Dan

I doubt it will work for two reasons: first, the hard drive would need to be formatted in a special proprietary format to accept recordings, and second, the copy protection built into these systems would prevent it. I picked up the Toshiba Symbio 160GB hard drive for $200 online, and it works perfectly with my 72MX195. The Symbio is controlled through the TV using the TV remote, so it is essentially a HD enclosure with IEEE1394 cable. The trick is that the HD is formatted properly, and the device supports the copy protection scheme used to prevent unauthorized duplication of copyrighted content.
