Is it possible to buy another dish and use my DirecTV receivers on the road and in our vacation home? Do I have to keep it connected to my phone line? I would like to just take the HD receiver from our 2nd room and bring it with us when we go camping or stay at our families vacation home. I've seen people in their RV's with satellite dishes. Is it hard to do?

Anybody using one of their home receivers in another location for vacation?

Yes you can take your receiver anywhere there's a dish set up.

It will work with some limitations. If your locals are on a spot beam and you go outside of the spot beam area= no locals.

You don't want to hook up the phone line, without the connection D* can't tell where the receiver is.So no pay per views unless ordered on line.

All your other channels can be viewed.

Just don't connect it to a phoneline at the vacation home (obviously shouldn't be a problem in the RV) and your plan should be fine. On the RV - you'll get real good at aiming a dish :)

Things to keep in mind - since your locals are on a spotbeam, you won't get them outside the spot. All the national cable channels won't be a problem, however.
