I'm using an Onkyo HTIB receiver coupled with an 20 yr old NEC SW-300 powered subwoofer (mentioned here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1161133 )

Being a low-level receiver and designed with passive subwoofer in mind, it doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer output (RCA) jack; just the basic +/- speaker cable outputs. My powered subwoofer has the following inputs/outputs: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/2...edsubwoofe.jpg

As mentioned above, I've connected the receiver to the subwoofer with basic speaker cables (connected to one set of the FROM SPEAKER spring connectors on the subwoofer). It seems to work fine, however is there any danger in doing so? From what I understand, I'm sending power to a powered sub.

Also, the subwoofer has a crossover dial with three selections: 70hz, 100hz, and 150hz. I have to set it at its highest point (150hz) so as to not interfere with the crossover configured on the receiver, correct?

My apologies if these questions are very basic and/or my equipment is substandard; I'm a neophyte when it comes to audio, and simply cannot afford upgrading my gear at this time.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm interpreting your equipment correctly, you have it connected correctly. Though the sub is powered, it has high level inputs. Those inputs are connected to the powered outputs on the receiver with speaker wire. Though the receiver output is powered as it was made for a passive sub, it won't hurt the amp on the sub. The sub has high impedance inputs, so it won't actually draw any power from the receiver.

Since the receiver appears to have it's own bass management, then you want to set the subs XO as high as possible and set the receiver's XO to something lesser.
