I have DirecTivo. DVR708 Philips Model.

I would like to have my replaytv 5504 use it as the source for its recording and still use the DirecTivo for other recordings. It has 2 tuners. Can this be done? Any pros / cons with this setup?

Can't be done with any normal means.

Two DTiVos now collecting dust in favor of 3 5040s and cable. (prodded by a DTV rate increase)

and I havent come to "the best" solution yet. Although, I am currenlty setting my replay setup up.

I dont know if a small increase from DTV, would make me get rid of multiple Dtivos. That would be hard to give up.

i love my replay for its features and layout, and appriciate the directivo for its dual tuners and suggestions. I just want to have the best of bothworlds on the same tv at minimal cost.

I am so glad you started this thread. It got me looking around. I have a 4xxx that I use just for capture from various sources. I tried the IR blaster on my Hughes hdvr2 and dvr40.

I used code 1142. This is the urc-6131 IR code for both Hughes and Phillips pvr/satellite receiver combo. The replay IR blaster changed channels on both of my directivos.

I suspect it will work for your dsr708 as well.

I have been using my dvr40 as a receiver for a 5500 since just after I posted my previous message. In the IR section I selected hughes and code 1142. Are you using the Replaytv IR cable? See attached.

The codes listed in the urc 6131 for a rca pvr/satellite receiver combo are 0392 and 1107. They are two of the codes listed in the replay IR section under RCA.

If none of the rca codes listed work, you could try the codes that other universal remotes use to control devices. Check this site for universal remote codes from different manufacturers. http://www.xdiv.com/remotes/

There must be a universal remote that can control the rca dvr40. Either an independent one or one that comes with a tv, vcr, dvd player etc.. The replay can use any 4-digit universal remote code that it has in the IR list.

As a long shot, you can try the two Tivo codes listed:

0618, 0636

Also, at the end of the Replay IR list when you highlight 'other', you see a phone number to call if none of the code sets work with your directv receiver. I don't know if the number is still active.

I seem to remember that some people were able to control the DTivo's by using the "Ovit" code (which, when spelled backwards is...). I did a search on "Ovit" and came up with the two following links:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...highlight=ovit

I hope the two links above are of some use.
