Hello all,

I'm thinking about hooking up my computer to the DVI input of my 50" Samsung DLP since I've heard they're awfully computer friendly. But the main purpose of this computer isn't to be a HTPC. I just want a PC with a bigger monitor to use the computer as...well, a computer. I want to play games, do programming, browse, email, etc.

I know that when you set the resolution right, Windows pretty much acts like Windows, but what about games that request fullscreen modes? What can I expect here? Sometimes I even play old DOS games that try for a 320x200 resolution. Will the TV balk? Is fullscreen a problem with using HDTVs as monitors?

I ask before I try because a DVI cable isn't cheap and I didn't already have one previously. The quick answer is to try it and see, but I was hoping to gather some opinions from people who have already done this.

Well, when I do "just computer" stuff via my Z2 on a 92" screen (at 11') It, in fact, works out very well (and I don't need my reading glasses like I do for close in work! ). Now, when I do (or try to) computer stuff on my 30" LCD (1280X720) at 10' distance it is too small to really see text well enough. You may need to try it to see how 50" works out for you.

As for the other modes, I have seen many displays not scale correctly at some resolutions resulting in lost screen information. YMMV here.
