1. I tried the search function >>> no luck

2. I checked th phenomonal HL167 tuning thread >>> no luck

Our Toshiba 42HL167 has developed a very slight, but yet noticeable vertical line going from the top to the bottom of the screen, right in the middle.

It doesn't seem to matter whether its a TV signal, or a BD player ( usng a PS3 ) signal. The line is there. Sometimes it's more noticeable than other times, depending on the background colors I guess.

Anyone else seen this issue? Is it something that can be minimized by adjusting a setting somewhere?

Help?

Well they picked up the TV this morning. I'll find out on Monday what the deal is. I also asked him to look into an intermittant audio issue thats happened in the past ( no audio thru HDMI & DVD until I unplug & re-plug the cable ).

This is the first time I bought an extended warranty for anything and I think I'm glad I did.

We'll see what happens.

Called the repair place today. I'm getting a new TV!

The entire panel needs to be replaced at a cost of Cdn $2600! Holy crap.

So now I get to see what the process will be to get a replacement. Hoping to be up and running by the end of the week again.

Any suggestions for a replacement to the 42 inch ( thats the max size I can use ) Toshiba ( 42HL167 )?

That's good news!

The price for replacement LCD screen is 150% of actual TV set price. Yes, it costs more to replace the screen than to buy new TV set....

Well, I ended up with a new TV. Got a LG 42LH30. Very happy with the set and I swear the picture is better than the one on the Toshiba HL167 it replaces.

I used the picture wizard feature on the LG to tune the picture and it works pretty well. I'll be using the Joe Kane BD disk in the next few days to further tune it up.

Right now, I'm a happy camper.

Wow you had the same exact thing that happened to my 42HL167 when I owned it a couple of years back. On it's 2 month anniversary no less I was watching TV and all of a sudden the screen flickered and a red straight line appeared right down the middle of the screen. The repair guy came out and apparently it was going to cost $3200 to replace to panel on a TV I paid $1500 for. The store ended up replacing the TV and I got a 50" Panny plasma instead so it didn't turn out bad.

I have just noticed the same issue with my set. I have a tech coming over on Friday to check it out. Hopefully, I can get this either fixed or replaced. Any advise on what to tell/ask the tech?

Thanks,

Ryan

Find a channel or disk that really shows the line. If its anything like mine, how visible the line is will depend alot on what the background color is on the screen.

Tech came out and sure enough I'll need either a new panel or a new set. Now, I have to play the waiting game for them to contact me with the decision.

I hope, they were supposed to call me on Monday or Tuesday to give me an update. Needless to say, they didn't call. I ended up calling them yesterday and no news yet. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into one of those extended warranty nightmares.

Tech called. They will be coming out Saturday to replace the "mainboard" I have no idea what that is. Hopefully it will be fixed, bummer though, I was hoping for a new TV. I haven't been too pleased with my TV (green picture, lines etc..).

If the green is still there after the new board, be sure to point it out to him while he's still there.

I will, I reset my service menu to the original settings. I almost forgot how green the picture is with the original settings.

I'm glad someone started this thread. I just discovered a magenta line going down the left side of my TV. My line comes and goes though.

I bought my 52HL167 from Costco and luckily they extend the warranty for an extra year! I bought my TV Jan 2008.

Costco sent out the repair guys and unfortunately the line wasn't showing when they got here. However, I showed them a picture I took and they said it would eventually get worse. So far, they said they'd submit a claim with Toshiba and HOPEFULLY they'll approve the warranty service. I say hopefully because the issue is intermittent and Toshiba may try to deny coverage.

So within two weeks I'll have an answer and if they say yes, the panel will be replaced which they said costs about $1000 and they'll have to take the TV for a few days.

Does anyone know what gets replaced with the panel? Does that include the processor/software or just the screen portion? The repair guy said the panel replacement includes 80% of the TV. The power supply and some other stuff will remain.

For those that have had the line down the middle of the screen like I have now. It's about a 3 inch wide line from top to bottom.

Mine seems to go away after about 15 mins. It only comes back if I turn the TV off and back on again. I was looking to find out if that is the same with those others with this problem.

I'm going to unplug my unit and keep it off for an hour and see if that may reset everything. I was also thinking about loading the newer firmware or the firmware once again hoping that may reset things.
