Very strange thing with SDDVD & HDA1

I was watching the SDDVD Cinderella Man & accidently pressed open with my universal remote! The screen went blank and then a box popped up saying the disc was a dual format disc the screen had a choice of HDDVD or SDDVD.....I moved it to the HDDVD button and pressed the ok button and the screen popped up another box saying it was an incorrect formatted DVD or something like that..I wonder why this happened?

I had this happen also while playing a Sony...of all companies...rental sd dvd :)
Earrz?Do you think this could mean that in the future when & if theres a 40 to 60gb disc that the movie studios/companys could put both versionsHD/SD on the same side of the disc? This is the only rational thing that would make since as to why this pop up ask you to select either Hd or Sd?!

I assumed it had something to do with hybrid discs that are supposed to be coming out.

The HD-A1, at the time, would not play the rented sd dvd, so I opened the tray to re-start the movie and the boxes appeared on screen.

I chose dvd, and the movie played like normal.

I brought my player back because it locked up a few times on initial start up, but plan on getting another (hopefully less buggy) player in the near future.

I was under the assumption that the HYBRID disc would be dual sided Sd on one side HD on the other?"Rumour has It" is the only Hybrid disc....as of now.Is it dual sided or are both movies on the same side?

You need to ask someone who knows more than I about hybrids, but I belive its supposed to be on the other side yes.

All I needed to know about hybrids was the 40.00 price..to know I am not interested ;)

My particular HD-A1 had so many other quirks/bugs, that those boxes popping up on the screen were good for some much needed comic relief at the time. :)
Your right its dual sided!I'm sorry to hear that the HDA1 didn't work out for you!!!Mine "knock on wood"has been GREAT so far..the HDA1 will even convert to 720p & 1080i over component if you :p "CREATE" ;) a back-up disc (of the movie you own of course)!
