I see alot of people here asking "How do I connect my PC to my HDTV". There seems to be quite an abundance of information about "custom resolutions" and "Powerstrip" and how they work with a scan converter to convert VGA to component. I'm now considering this:

which claims to do the signal and format conversion via hardware ! Does anyone know how well this product actually works?

*bump-

Nobody has ever used this?

I spoke with a tech from the manufacturer that assures me 1080i works flawlessly- even has adjustments for overscan/ underscan/ flicker/ color, etc...I guess I'll just have to buy one and be the guinea pig...

What most people talk about are Transcoders, they simply convert the signal from RGB (VGA) to component, they don't change the resolution.

What you link to is a Scan Converter which is basically a REALLY cheap scaler. It will probably be easier to set up (no powerstrip) but will almost certainly result in inferior quality since it will convert your PCs output (not 1080i) to 1080i internally. To do that well requires a good scaler and those are generally $1000+
