Video Calibration (Player or Display?)

419 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Lee Bailey
Hello, I just picked up the Yamaha 750 DVD player. This is my first DVD player that offers video calibration through the player.

My question is when using my Avia disc should I adjust the DVD players settings or my Displays? And depending on which one I adjust what should I do with the others units settings?

I would use the defaults on the DVD player, and calibrate the display.

Unless the player has settings the TV doesn't.
Either source you use for adjustments, you will have to check what mode the DVD player is using, i.e., Cinema, Standard, Vivid, etc. That will make a difference to what you see on your monitor. I usually set my DVD player to Standard, then run Avia. Also check if you have a black level adjustment on your DVD player. It needs to be set correctly if your TV has only global adjustments for the rest of the inputs, which could definitely affect your normal TV viewing.
