I have a Denon 2113CI Receiver and have just changed my setup to allow for listening to music while watching tv.

To achieve this I plugged my direct tv box directly to an input on my tv. I can now select the audio source from my receiver but select the input the direct tv is plugged to and I can listen to music while watching tv.

When watching tv with the actual tv audio, I am select 'TV Audio' input on my receiver and I get the correct audio, the only issue I am seeing is it is only coming across as Stero and not Dolby.

I have an optical audio cable coming out of the tv out input of the tv into the receiver, everything else is set up through HDMI.

Any thoughts?

yeah, connect the optical cable from the Directv box straight to the receiver instead of running optical from the TV. Then you'll get Dolby Digital.

The TV converts the incoming DD signal to 2 channel stereo. You don't want that.
