I have been playing Xbox on my 52" HD-ILA and I havent seen any lagging. while the games look great in most ways I am seeing moving edges. I wish I could find a fix for this because the color and action look great but the edges of people trees hills and everything else seem uneven and move as the camera moves. i have my xbox set with all the high definitions on and set to wide screen. i tried tweeking them out but with no success. I hope somebody can tell me how I have the wrong plug in the wrong place but i have checked my HD compnent wired out of the xbox and into the tv and cant seem to find whats wrong. does anyone else have tihis problem and is it fixable?

Please dont tell me that! I asked over and over in this forum and elsewere about any problems with gamming on this set. And everytime I got there was none. So I made the leap and ordered one, which should be here anyday. There is no way I could deal with the problem you mentioned.

If it does have the problem, you're least likely to see it on XBox. Here's the deal:

- This problem tends to occur only with games that don't support progressive scan.

- 5% of PS2 games support PS.

- 50% of GC games support PS.

- 95% of XBox games support PS.

In short, you'll most likely see it on the PS2 on time-sensitive games. DDR, Hot Shots Golf 3, and Hot Shots Golf Fore are good candidates for testing.

Ok just got my jvc yesterday, hooked up some battlefront and madden...no lag. Pic is a little blurry though, buddy of mine said to get this cable and it will make a big difference in the pq:

ps2 vid cable

I'll be searching online for that cable myself.

I love this tv so far.

> You can buy the Sony brand Component cable and save yourself some money. There aren't many games for the PS2 that are 480p, so YMMV.

www.hdtvarcade.com has a listing of games.

I got mine from CC. Don't use the audio part, just use a TOSlink or Digital cable for audio.

are you saying the moving edges problem can be solved with a new cable? that would be great if true. i just bought the microsoft hdtv pack at my local fryes and assumed they had a decent cable for the price i paid. so i should just go buy a decent compnent cable and see if it works right?

When I played some ps2 games, the pq wasn't that sharp/had moving edges. My buddy recommended that cable and said the pq improves a lot, so yeah, I guess I'm saying it will help w/ the pq/moving edges, etc.

sorry availingfaith i didnt see your other posts or i would have answered them but i havent played that much xbox and was hoping it was a setting problem. well i tried a new component cable to the xbox HD converter and it didnt help. maybe i have a bad xbox converter box because others have said the picture is great with xbox. i did manage to get some of the edge movement out by turning the brightness, contrast and detail way down and while this helped without really degrading the overall effects of the game it didnt eliminate the problem. is it possible a call to JVC would help or is this just the nature of the beast?

Make sure you hook all your game units hooked up with component cables if possible, especially the PS2. Monster makes nice cables for both the XBox and PS2 and they are worth the $$, imo. Nintendo does have a component cable for their Cube but it's only available through them. I have all 3 units hooked up to my D-ILA and they all have no lag at all that I have seen.

Also, jaggies are a given on some types of graphical rendering in games so that's not uncommon to see, especially on the PS2 which has slightly dated hardware at this point.

BTW, luv the D-ILA. After reading just about every post in these forums about this set, I certainly had it in my mind that I might encounter some problems with it. Bad convergence, tilt, dead pixels, etc. Surprise-- no issues whatsoever! I dunno, maybe I will find something eventually, if I look hard enough. But cripes it's a great TV. I am very impressed by the blacks on this set. Very good for a rear projection.

I watched The Abyss tonight through my (also) newly aquired SB318 in 1080i and then fired up Soul Caliber II in 720p. Just thinking about how good both things looked on the D-ILA brings tears of sweet joy to my eyes! :)

I am a gamer of many years, and I have never seen anything that indicated the PS2 is even capable of non interlaced video. Do you have technical information that indicates otherwise? I know FOR SURE the GC and Xbox are, but I was under the impression the PS2 was capable of no more than 480i. I owned one of the first PS2s to come out several years ago and never got anything better than 480i from it, no matter what DVD or game was in the drive.

Please URL any information that indicates a PS2 does Progressive Scan output on Component. I would love to be proved wrong on this one.

John

PS - I have GC and Xbox hooked up to the ILA, and they are both unbelievable given a good piece of software.

You must have component video cables and your game must support 480p. Here is a list of games that support progressive scan.

I've also read that not all PS2 models support the progessive scan option. You need to have the Sony PS2 model number SCPH-50001.

turn on PS2 without disc in.

turn on 16x9 option.

turn on progressive scan option.

No, that's not entirely true. Only the 50001 supports progressive scan on DVD playback. All models support progressive scan on games. Some games (SOCOM: Navy Seals) have a progressive option in the options menu. Others, you hold down Triangle and X when the game is booting up to enable PS.

As for the DVDs, you have to put in a DVD, stop the DVD, and bring up the PS2 DVD menu. You can't get to this menu via the System Configuraion menu; you have to be in DVD mode. In the "Setup" option, you can choose Progressive Scan. You can only switch this when a DVD is not playing, so the DVD has to be stopped. This setting only works in the 5000X models.

The 16:9 option IS in the System Configuration menu.

I don't have any specific URL information, but someone else has posted a link and I use www.hdtvarcade.com. The best I can tell you is that I bought SOCOM for the sole reason of testing PS on the PS2 and it worked.

I play XBox on my DILA. Hooked up with Monster component cables.

I've played Burnout 3, NHL 2k5, NFL 2k5, and XMen: Legends. They are all awesome looking...but, XMen in 720p is amazing.

No lag, no problems, no burn in.
