I just got a new Sony RPTV the 520. I have a front projector in the theater room so this TV is mainly used to watch non HD DirecTV. Problem is on most channel's there is a good deal of noise in the picture. I thought the problem was my aging Ultimate TV receiver which I had connected via S-video so I bought an HD TIVO and hooked it up via component. Didn't solve the problem. I am about to switch to a Sony XBR 960 to see if that is any better.

The thing is, DVD's look fine, even good and HD is not too bad, still some noise but not as noticeable. Could this be a power problem? What can I do to check? Would a line conditioner clean up the noise and deliver a clear picture with SD?

Thanks for your help

It only looks bad with SD DirectV and marginal with HDTV DirectV.

DVD's look good. I am wondering if there is some kind of interference from something that is affecting the SD performance. It seems unlikely it is a problem with the TV because DVD's look good. The HD Tivo looks good in the other room when I hooked it up to my front projector so it is not the HD Tivo either.

What could be causing the excessive noise?
