Is there any benefit to running the video stream through the pass-through on my amp before reaching the TV?

I have always went straight from source to TV, but now I need to re-wire most of my components and I'm wondering why they even put video pass-through's on amps.

2 reasons. To accomodate TVs with insufficient inputs and for ease of use (you only have to switch the receiver to the proper input instead of the TV and receiver). I actually use a combination method. All my progressive and HDTV video signals go direct to the TV while all s-video and composite go thru the receiver.
