Does anyone know how firewire (IEEE394) video output from a cable set top box to an HDTV compares with HDMI/DVI and component cables? I would assume equal to HDMI/DVI and better than component, but I've looked and am unable to confirm this.
All except component are digital interfaces and will transmit a perfect digital picture. The difference is that HDMI/DVI and component are uncompressed so the STB does the decompression. With 1394 which is compressed it means the HDTV does the decompression. The quality of each may depend on which device has a better MPEG decoder.
