I am thinking about purchasing a Sony 46HX929 This panel will be for the bedroom, and will be placed on a thirty six inch tall stand. Since this will obviously not be at eye level can I expect any degrading of the picture ?
Depends on eye level and viewing distance. LCD off angle degradation is more severe in the vertical dimension than side to side. Ideally your eye level should be even with the center of the screen, but in practice if it's even with anywhere in the middle 3/4 you should be ok from any viewing distance.
Distance from the screen also has an effect. An eye level 10" below the lower edge of the screen is a lot worse from 3 feet away than from 13 feet away--the angle is more acute at the closer distance.
If you can't get a decent angle at that height with your proposed viewing distance you should consider finding ways to angle the set downward to reduce the acuteness of the off-angle.
