I have an opportunity to purchase a Vidikron 40 for my home theater that will be completed in about three weeks. A dealer/installer who I have purchased goods from in the past (not local, so I can't visit) is getting the unit as a demo unit but does not have room in his showroom to display it. He's offering it to me at a good price. Having not been able to see the unit, I'm asking for feedback from any CEDIA goers that may have seen the unit at their booth or anyone else who has seen it .

Other options I'm considering are:

1) Buy a BenQ 8700

2) Wait for the Optoma H76.....if it's ever released

3) Squeeze the budget and buy Sharp 10000 or Marantz S2 (probably refurbished) or a Runco CL710 (AVS gave me a great deal on Berkline seats and are making the Runco tempting...Thanks Jason and Alan)

or ...... save some money and make the offset of the NEC HT1000 fit my room.

I'm going to buy a 100-106" screen after I buy the projector. First row seating will be about 13-14' back in a totally light controlled room.

Any feedback on experience on refurbished projectors is most welcome as are any other opinions.

Many thanks

I guess the lack of response would imply that not many people have seen this projector and there isn't much interest in it....doesn't appear to bode well for resale if I buy this thing.

BTW: If anyone's interested I e-mailed Optoma in CA to inquire about he H76. I was told it was "back-ordered with no firm ETA" How can a projector that hasn't been released be back-ordered? I asked if it was closer to two weeks or two months and the reply came back two months.
