Vidikron VPF 40SE

997 Views 12 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  seafarer
Hi All!

This is my first post here so I hope I will not have my ear chewed off!

I have a small problem. I have owned my Vidikron VPF 40SE since 1999

When I tried turning it on via the remote, all 3 guns do not fire any light at all

There is a small red led light that comes on in the connector panel area and I hear the relay click when I press on in the remote control but thats it

I searched some of the archived posts in this forum and I have opened the projector up and removed the dust etc but it still wont work

I suspect from my research that it is most likely to be one of two things:

1) Power Supply?

2) Trippler?

Would anyone here be able to point me in the right direction as to what to check or where to start - maybe with a service diagram? Or maybe they have had this problem before and know what I should be looking for?

It would be easy for me to scrap this unit and buy a replacement, but I absolutely love this CRT projector and would be sad to see it dead

Cheers

Chances are the fault is related to the red light. Can you tell us which red light is on, there are three of them.

Curt
Hi Curt

Thanks for your prompt reply!

The little red led light is the "on" indicator

This light is on even when the projector is in standy mode from what I can see

When I press the on button on the remote control, I hear the relay click and the led light still stays on

I hope this helps

Seafare:

Sounds like the power supply, all the Vidikrons I ever owned, 3 , 2 were replacements had that very same problem, on my first Vidikron I had the power supply replaced about three times.

Hated anything Vidikron forever after the experience
LJG

Yes I think its the power supply too, but as I said earlier Im not really sure

Here in Australia it is impossible to get parts...do you know of an affordable supplier of this part? I didnt particularly want to spend thousands to get it to work again.

I guess if it were reasonably affordable I would give it a go, but if its time to put it to rest I would research for a replacement

Im hoping maybe there is a common part on the power supply requiring replacement? Or I need to change the whole board?

I think it will be a recuring problem so it is probably a good time to put the Vidikron down
LJG

I hear what you are saying!

But I would still be interested to explore all possibilities before I finally lay it to rest

I am actually attached to this projector...I absolutely love it - both in its performance and its looks

LJG, you're kidding, right? I don't suppose you're a digital reseller and you 'happen' to have an office in Australia?;)

Power supply failures happen maybe once in the lifetime of a set, but with what you're describing, I don't think it's the supply. It might be the CPU card not telling the main supply to turn on. Do any of the row of green lights come on?

I've got 100% of the parts for this set in stock. If everything else was working fine and it gave a good pix before it died, I'm sure we can get it going.
Nope, I actually have a Vidikron vpf40SE boxed up in my basement with the exact same problem, which replaced the tgs100, after figthing with the then president of Vidikron, which had the same problem 3 times prior.

Love my G90 though
Hi Curt

No the only light to come on is the red led light

There is a little nicam light that momentarily flashes on when the power is turned on but thats it

Yes it was giving perfect picture before all this happened

Which one is the CPU card? I can pull the card out if necessary as I have the projector on my work bench at the moment

Here's some tips:

Sounds like it's either the standby supply or the main SMPS. I have both in stock if you want them. PLs email me through my site though.

Thanks!
Hi Curt

OK will have a read and be in touch
