Viewing and playing FLAC music files in WMC7 64-bit

Assuming it's possible, could anyone help me out with a step-by-step on how to get WMC7 x64 to show and play FLAC music files? I tried downloading the x64 FLAC codec from xiph.org and the tag support extender. I can now see the files in WMC7 but I get a "file not supported" error when I try to play them.

Is there another FLAC decoder I should be using? My folders are set up by genre with mp3's and FLAC's in the same folder and I'd like to see all of them side-by-side without regard to file format.

You need to set it up in WMP 32bit first then they will shown up in 64bit WMP/WMC.

I play flac music files in WMP/WMC and to get the cover image and info sometimes I have to right click on the album in WMP and select "get album info" and it will download the album data.
He can already see the files so I don't think that's his problem.

Not many x64 flac decoders exist. In fact, I know of only one. I tried the one you mentioned and I couldn't get it to work, either. I discovered FFDShow x64 has FLAC support. If you don't want all the other codecs (which I suggest not to if they work), then when you install FFDShow deselect everything except FLAC. You should then be able to hear FLAC audio. Only downfall is, unless FFDShow has since updated, it only supports 48Khz 16-bit audio (which CD quality audio isn't over, anyway. This would be for DVD audio or HD audio).
I don't know about that I have it working fine in Win7 64bit WMP/WMC.
I did not know there was a 64 bit wmp? Could you confirm this?

Found it! I could not find a link anywhere on the start menu only the one for WMP pointing at x86 program fliles. Looked in "program files" and found the 64bit one. At least on task manager it says WMP.exe not WMP.exe*32 like before seams more stable. One thing I don't like about win7 is the start menu, prefer the way it would open up across the screen in xp.

Yes, I can see the files just fine, along with the album covers I had saved into the tags. I just can't play them. I thought I remember reading that FFDShow's FLAC decoder did not support standalone FLAC files, only FLAC audio within mkv or some other container. If it can do standalones, that would be fine because I only use FLAC for CD-quality audio--for DVD and HD audio I bitstream DD or DTS formats.
ffdshow supports standalone FLAC (i.e. files with extension .flac). What you need is a 64-bit FLAC source filter. I am not sure what's the best (I guess there are not so many anyway). MPC HomeCineam x64 standalone filter set includes flacsource.ax. Register it and you are ready.

Thanks. Forgive the newbie question, but how do I register flacsource.ax?

Use regsvr32.exe this way or this way (I prefer the latter).
If renethx solution doesn't work for you...

Make sure you don't have more then one flac codec, and did you try making it work in WMP 32bit first?
