okay probably been done to death but i cant find the info..


what do i need to buy to be able to view TV etc on a standard PC LCD monitor.?

any pointers for a girly noob greatly appreciated.. ;)

To use a computer monitor as a screen you'll need an external TV tuner with a video output. Preferably using either VGA or DVI.


There's quite a few to choose from, and they come in all sorts of levels of quality. Shop around.

oh okay..thanks..

does that mean i have to have the computer switched on to watch tv though, or can you get standalone tuners..?

There are DVD recorders with VGA output e.g. GIEC 9000/9200/7800 ... if you're in HK


There are abundant TV boxes for PC monitors, no PC required

fwiw, my Samsung stb has both the ntsc and astc tuners in it; just connect the DVI out from the stb to the DVI input on my LCD moniter, and I am in business. all it took was one cable, and a few adjustments to get the picture where I wanted it.
